Bolshaya Pokrovskaya is one of the oldest streets in Nizhny Novgorod. For three centuries, until the 19th century, only city estates were located on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street - the metal fences near the courthouse and the university building remained from those times. Then manor architecture gave way to historical European architectural styles. Most of what we see on the street today was created in the 19th century.

Most of the buildings on the street are cultural heritage sites.

Today Nizhny Novgorod "Arbat" is very popular. It is especially crowded on the street in the evening, when all shops and cafes are open, and on the pavement you can see performances of street musicians and artists.

The goal of our work is to give Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street a new light image of the street, providing visual comfort and artistic expression. The architecture of classical buildings, softly revealed by soft warm white light, will create light paths for pedestrians.

Architectural and urban planning analysis showed that all objects are perceived from short distances, and the observer himself is inside the illuminated space. It was necessary to set a certain rhythm and dynamism of the space, without overloading it.

Thus, the reception of local lighting was proposed as a basis, and in particular, the lighting of window openings of buildings, which will emphasize and unite the variety of decor of window casings of different styles and attract attention. The lighting of the pilasters will reveal the central and lateral parts of the facades of buildings, completing its integrity.

Thus, the concept provides for a calm and harmonious architectural lighting of building facades, as a defining component of the evening light and color environment of Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street.
