As part of the international environmental project to develop sister city relations and cooperation in creating a comfortable urban environment, "Friendship Space: Nizhny Novgorod – Sukhum," a meeting was held in Sukhum between Nizhny Novgorod Mayor Yuri Shalabaev, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergei Kiriyenko, Nizhny Novgorod President Badry Gunba, and Sukhum Mayor Timur Agrba. One of the outcomes of the meeting was the "Light of Culture" project, which aims to artistically illuminate historic buildings, alleys, and individual trees in Sukhum.

As part of the program, the historic, century-old eucalyptus trees, which dominate the embankment park complex and have now become a historical legacy of the city's appearance, were illuminated. The trees are distinguished by their size—their lush crowns reach over 30 meters in height.

We developed a plan and methodology for eucalyptus illumination that will best enhance the visual appearance of the city's most famous and popular public space. The fixtures are mounted on poles and aimed to highlight the interior volume of the tree canopies and provide a holistic visual experience, while creating a light and color corridor along the alley. Some of the floodlights are equipped with auxiliary shades to eliminate the possibility of glare and unwanted ambient light.

The lighting systems operate in both everyday and holiday modes. The corresponding lighting scenarios are triggered using a built-in astronomical relay with precise time zone control.

A project to illuminate other equally significant historical sites in Sukhum is also underway.
